Today was a laid back kind of day. We slept in then took a cab to Eataly. This is a GIANT 4 story building that contains all things Italian having to do with food. (There is one in New York and Chicago, also.) So 1st floor has 2 gelaterias, dairy products, baked goods, candies, fresh fruits and veggies, cooking stuff/kitchen equipment, toiletries and several restaurants for snacky kind of food. Next floor has salumi, cheeses, oils, pastas, rices, condiments, beers and several restaurants.
3rd floor has fresh meats and seafoods, wines and liquors, coffees, teas and more restaurants. The top floor is a cooking school, fancy restaurant, meeting rooms. The selection of goods is ridiculous, ie the fresh pasta is in a butcher case bigger than the one at Whole Foods for meat. Two guys were busily making tiny little stuffed pasta and when I stopped to take their picture, they gave us a sample of the raw pasta to taste. Even raw, it was good!

The restaurants all specialize in one type of food. We ate lunch in one that had pizza and pasta and had a really good lunch. And I hit the Venchi gelateria for dessert. This is possibly the best gelato anywhere!! We had it last summer in Venice and the opinion was the same then. Wandering around was fun and made us wish we were staying in one place longer so that we could buy things to cook.
A mid day nap and just hanging out in the apartment relaxing, reading was a nice break. We decided to go back to the pizzeria that we passed on yesterday. It's called "Ai Marmi" and it's nickname is "the morgue" because it has lots and lots of marble slab tables. It's very close to the apartment from last summer. When we realized that it was a well known pizzeria, it was a Wed, the restaurant was closed and we were leaving the next day for Florence so we girls missed out. The place is totally nuts. Tonight it was MORE nuts because there was a group of about 50 high school kids there that were being kids...loud, rowdy, obnoxious. And plenty of other customers to make the place packed. The pizzas are thin crust, wood oven baked pizzas that are really good.

And that was our Sunday.
